Simple communications that will help this site. I know Aryus has already done this with a link, but I think a summed up version for those lazy people who don't clikc on links would much appreciate this.
First off, wolves use body language for most of their talk. In role playing we allow our animal characters the use of words that we can understand. Think of how your dog or cat acts around other individuals. In their way, they are talking and most likely can form the words we can with their body.
Happiness: Is shown with open mouth, ears perked, and tongue hanging
Threatening: Mouth open to show bared teeth, lips pulled forward, ears erect or perked, growling/snarling, nose wrinkled
Threatened: Mouth closed, lips dawn very far back, ears lay down, whining sound is heard
Alpha: Tend to use stares on lesser ranked wolves to prove they are higher up, get what they want, tell them to be quiet, etc. The lesser ranks usually look down unless they want a fight, then they use a stare back. They may cringe and lick under the Alpha's muzzle, lay on back and expose belly, and tail can go between legs.
Hackles are usually raised if threatened along with poofed out fur at times.
If threatened, wolf gets smaller as best it can.
The tail is raised by higher ranking wolves to remind all that they are in charge.
In charge wolves may even attack members of their pack to prove themselves. Usually it ends with the wolf belly-up and the higher rank over it and may even put it's jaws around the throat of the lower rank.
