CHAPTER~1
I waited in line to get off of the bus, being over crowded by people. I pushed and shoved my way toward the exit and immediately leaped off the bus, not bothering to use the stairs. I ran over to the stairs of Washington D.C. High. My short brownish blonde hair whipped against my face in the breeze as I waited. Suddenly, D.J. came over to me. His dark brown hair remained perfectly still under his black fedora. I leaped up and hugged my boyfriend.
“Hey Dawn.” he greeted me, a smile appearing on his face. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder and I wrapped mine around his waist as we walked into the school building. There, we spotted some of my closest friends waiting on some of the stairs to the second floor.
Alice spotted us first and smiled happily at us and tapped the empty seats next to her for us to sit down. Her black hair had long stripes of red in it and was down to her lower back and seemed as curly as Shirley Temple’s. She was also the tallest out of the bunch at five foot seven, though she was a year older than all of us. But her eyes where what stood out on her. Her right eye was a simple brown, but the left one was icy blue. I wished I had blue eyes like her and D.J. Then, my friend Lea saw us about to sit by Alice and moved over, squishing her boyfriend Ryan against the wall. “Come sit by us!” she pleaded in her slightly high pitched voice. So we sat by her instead and Alice made that weird face she always makes. Lea and Alice didn’t like each other much. Then again, Lea was the exact opposite of Alice. She was the shortest at five foot even. Her hair was plain brown and medium length, and she was a bit high-strung and easily angered, while Alice was easy going and didn’t take too much seriously, but could kick your butt if needed. Then again, both of them could beat people up easily. And Lea’s eyes where light brown like mine as well. Her boyfriend Ryan, who was pleading for mercy by the wall, had the same hair color, height, and eyes as Lea, just shorter hair; Unlike Dustain, who had hair past his shoulders that was fun to play with. It was multi colored sort of, being red, brown, black, and blonde. Maybe his hair color couldn’t make up its mind… But he had a face full of freckles, the same with his arms and legs. And he was about my height, which was the same as D.J.’s at five foot three. Alley just sat by Dustain and watched Ryan humorously. She had dark blue eyes with short dirty blonde hair that only barely passed her shoulders. Payton was the second tallest of us all at five foot five, and she was skinny like a toothpick, sort of like Alice. She had long light blonde hair, but had deep midnight black eyes that made her pupils almost invisible.
“Last night, my mom went out partying and left my two little sisters home alone!” Lea suddenly said.
“Ooohhh, my mom grounded me last night ‘cause I punched my little sister and broke her nose!” said Payton. Every one except Alice, who was staring off in another direction daydreaming, laughed.
“Hey, Alice?” I said, looking over at her, making her break her ‘trance’ and look over at us with a blank, dumbfounded expression, “Your seventeenth birthday is coming up soon, right? August 21? Well, my parents are going out of town for the weekend, and my little sisters are going to my grandma’s for a while. Well, my house is so big, and my parents finished remodeling the kitchen. We could have a party there! It’s big enough for a lot of people!”
“Well, it’s not like I have any friends besides you guys, but okay I suppose…” Said Alice, immediately turning her head to glare at the wall again. Her voice was light and pretty when she wanted it to be, but normally it was dark and raspy, carrying a dark, uneven creak after every word she said.
“Hey, Dawn?” Lea said, ignoring Alice’s response, “my parents are going out of town too!”
“Mine too!” said Alley and Payton at the same time.
“Any one else?” I asked. Ryan, D.J., Dustain, and Alice all raised their hands.
“Strange…” I said, “Any way, Alice. I’ll come over later on today after school and we can make the invitations, okay?”
